The phylogenetic tree constructed using MEGA 7.0 through the neighbor-joining method, based on hepcidin sequences from fishes and mammals. The hepcidin sequences from humans and rodents (mammals) are grouped in the outgroup, along with the hepcidin variants (LEAP-2) from Danio rerio forming a separate cluster. The HAMP 1 and HAMP 2 sequences are organized into distinct clades, with GIFT-Hep grouping alongside the HAMP1 sequence from Dicentrarchus labrax
